Professional Development Courses for Teachers

Engaging learners through games and team building

A must for any primary school teacher looking to build their confidence in taking their kids out for play and to unite their class.

A Practical Workshop

In this workshop we empower teachers with the 'know-how' to deliver fun, interactive and meaningful lessons in games and team building. Your staff will walk away with a plethora of 'hands-on' activites and strategies to use with their classes. Past experience tells us that students work better when they have opportunities to play, socialise with others and use up the huge amounts of energy that can often be disruptive in a classroom environment.

In this "hands-on"workshop we will cover:

How to utilise the schools equipment to deliver fun and interactive games for studentsCharacter Building games and activitites that promote inclusivity, respect and peer developmentHow teachers with a non games or HPE background can run effective lessons with confidenceThe many benefits of how games give students the option to play, socialise and build character

No powerpoints or chalk and talk!!!!

Outcomes for staff and in turn students:

  • Through your ability to more easily deliver games students will actively discover essential social skills needed for working in a team through some of our key messages ("Step up at times, step back at times and encourage others")
  • The execution of character development through:
    • Ettiquette in using peers names, suitable manners and language in relation to the game
    • Resilience in accepting defeat "Mistakes Are Essential For Success"
    • Humility in celebrating wins with respect for the competitor
  • Opportunity to release energy, develop motor skills and have fun with peers

And so much more...

School Staff Team Building

Character Builders currently works with a number of Corporate and government clients. School staff are no different in that they too need an opportunity to step out of their office/"classroom" and have some fun outside the school grounds. Why not bring your staff together with:

  • Outdoor Adventure day,
  • Boat Cruise or Island Retreat,
  • Mini-Olympics,
  • Golf Day,
  • Adventure Race,
  • Ready Steady Cook and so much more.

We also come to you and can offer great school based activities. Sometimes it's nice to put down the books and focus on the culture of the team. For more,

Professional Development Courses for Teachers

Work/Life Balance for Beginning Teachers

Rationale and Aim:

Beginning teachers are exposed to a great number of stress related incidents. The pressures associated with stress in the teaching profession are well documented. They include but are not limited to curriculum change, timetable/workload, lesson planning, time management, staff relationships and student discipline. Unless the wellbeing of individual teachers, especially those new to the profession, is improved, standards of education and the educational experience of young people will suffer, with far-reaching financial, economic and social consequences for our schools. This professional development workshop attempts to empower beginning teachers with greater resources and networking to deal more effectively with these pressures. To provide professional development for beginning teachers to assist in their occupational efficiency and work/life balance.

Areas covered:

  • Strengthening interpersonal and communication skills needed for dealing with students, staff, parents and other members of the schooling community
  • Time management
  • Stress identification and management
  • Dimensions of wellness that impact on your occupational efficiency

Mr. Mathew Hand, consultant psychologist to the ‘Wellbeing for Teachers’ workshop agrees that all teachers/staff, especially the new flow of young graduates out of university need to be made more aware of the impact that their work environment has on their emotional and physical wellness. The Work/Life Balance Workshop is a huge support for our teachers/staff of both today and tomorrow.
